In 1953 Maid of Ashton was launched by Lady Benstead, wife of the BTC's deputy chairman. The 'Ashton' was the only 'Maid' to be built by Yarrow's of Scotstoun and in fact remains to this day the only vessel the yard (best known for its naval contracts) has ever built for the Clyde passenger service.
